Preventing diseases against the health and safety of people in regards to the food they eat doesn’t stop just by keeping the food’s cleanliness, and making sure that it is properly cooked. Cross Contamination is the transfer of harmful bacteria from one object to another unintentionally. Utensils can hold diseases transmitted by a person who used it earlier if not washed properly and thoroughly. These bacteria can easily transfer from utensils to Human body especially when these utensils go directly to the mouth of a person making the bacteria or harmful microorganism spread throughout a person’s body causing him to fall sick and worse spreading the disease to other people.

Who are concerned on these issues?
As we all know, almost then whole population of Don Bosco Academy – Pampanga consumes primarily food in our canteens and food kiosks. Yet, little do we know, some of the utensils and facilities are not that fully clean and sanitized. This risks the health not only of Bosconians but also, the whole EPC.
What are the issues concerned?
Spoons and forks are stored openly and left wet after being washed – are they even thoroughly washed?; Condiment dispensers are not cleaned and have no covers which lead to flies around the dispensers which is very unsanitary.

As with one Bosconian’s experience, he has encountered having a dead fly on top of his meal; a Salesian Educator sharing that sometimes they encounter plates, spoons or forks that our not thoroughly washed and have spots of food on them.
Our specific project to this said problem is to have proper containers of the condiments, and proper sanitation of our utensils. Also, we have noticed that in the gym canteen there is a utensil/spoon & fork sterilizer yet it is not functional. Having at least one functional sterilizer in every departmental canteen is what our project proposes. Another part of the proposal is to have at least a twice a month cleanliness checkup for the school canteens, through the canteen head personnel.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Having clean utensils and sanitary materials in our canteens will result to the assurance of the health of the Don Bosco Academy Family. Our goal is to lessen the risk of students getting small diseases or even major diseases from unclean utensils and neglected sanitary practices. With this, the well-being of the school population will prosper.
